Nestled at 5 Hastings Ave in Toronto, Hastings Snack Bar is a cozy Polish gem that has quickly earned a devoted following. Patrons rave about its authentic offerings, particularly the pierogies—recently crowned among the top five in the city. Reviewers like John Dingwell highlight the standout blueberry dessert pierogies alongside robust cabbage rolls, each dish reflecting the rich traditions of Polish cuisine. The daily specials, including the highly praised white borscht soup, further showcase the restaurant's commitment to quality and homemade flavors. The ambiance is intimate, with counter seating that creates a friendly eating experience, although the limited space may not accommodate larger groups or those with mobility challenges. Despite its size, the warmth of the staff shines, ensuring that each visitor feels welcomed. From hearty portions of traditional potato pancakes to generous bowls of borscht, diners find satisfaction in every bite. As Winifred H points out, it's a refreshing alternative to standard brunch spots, offering a delightful array of Polish fare. With its unique charm and delicious offerings, Hastings Snack Bar is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Polish food in a delightful setting.

Do not pass up an opportunity to visit this diner. Yes, it is cozy with only counter and stool seating, but the food is fantastic. They have recently been declared as one of the five best places in Toronto to get perogies and that is no exaggeration! They are fantastic...especially the blueberry dessert ones. But this is not just the best perogies. Their cabbage rolls are something else and need to be tried. And...if you are lucky enough to be there when the white borscht soup is on the menu you have hit the jackpot!. I can easily make the statement that everything on their menu is superb. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful in discussing the menu. It would be hard to walk away from here without being satisfied. All the food is "homemade" and the portions are generous. Because of the snug lunch counter interior, I would say that it is not wheelchair friendly (and you are not dragging your MEC stroller inside either). However, there are cafe tables and chairs on an accessible patio in the summer. Parking is street parking. Queen streetcar stops at the door. A very enjoyable and unique experience for authentic Polish food. I recommend.

Amazing very small Polish restaurant. Would highly recommend. Tastes just like my babcia used to make.

Yummy authentic Polish food! Perfect alternative for the neighborhood if you don't want a standard brunch menu. Generous portions and great variety if you want a mix of everything. I got the borscht soup and it was a massive bowl!

Delicious, cool, friendly. Very small and quaint inside with only about 14 or so seats at a counter but makes for a set up that’s a lot fun and different and the food very tasty.

Really homie little Polish diner style restaurant. Very warm and welcoming staff. Came in for a quick little coffee and a breakfast. Had their riff of a full breakfast. Everything was delicious especially the traditional potato pancakes which were out of this world. I definitely plan on going back to try some of their traditional Polish lunch items like cabbage rolls and pierogies.

Hastings Snack Bar is an excellent little restaurant off Queen Street in Leslieville. It's something of a hybrid between a diner and a Polish restaurant. There aren't too many good Polish restaurants in Toronto, so it was a pleasure to try this place out. The breakfast is delicious, served with eggs, homemade sausage, bacon, potato pancakes, seasoned tomatoes and cucumbers, and buttered bread. Everything was really tasty, with the sausage and eggs being personal highlights. My partner also had pierogis which she said were really outstanding. This is a great spot, come by and bring an appetite!

Amazing food that will remind you of a home-made grandma meal. You can tell everything in this restaurant is made with love. Also, a big shout-out to the staff who always makes us feel welcome. Toronto is in dire need of more places that provide a sense of belonging to the community (like this one).

Absolutely delicious traditional Polish breakfast. My kids loved everything, they said it was the best breakfast they have ever had.
